Laughton's four-goal game leads Flyers past Red Wings

The Philadelphia Flyers met the Detroit Red Wings for the first time this season and it was the Scott Laughton show. He scored four goals in the game and eventually hit 100 goals for his career. The Flyers are now two games above hockey .500 at 14-12-4.


Scott Laughton gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead at the 13:22 mark of the second period. His slap shot beat Red Wings goaltender Cam Talbot top shelf. The puck went off the crossbar and into the net. No one received an assist.



The Flyers got the game's first power play at the 15:34 mark of the second period when Simon Edvinsson was called for hooking. They had a few good looks in tight but didn't capitalize on the opportunity.


The Red Wings got their first power play just three seconds into the third period as Matvei Michkov got called for roughing.


Laughton scored his second goal of the game while on the penalty kill at the 1:31 mark of the third period. He was on a two-on-one with Travis Konecny and he tipped in his pass past the right pad of Talbot. This gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead. Konecy and Sanheim tallied assists.



Ben Chariot got the Red Wings on the board at the 16:07 mark of the third period. His wrist shot deflected off of the stick of Noah Cates and over the right shoulder of Flyers goaltender Aleksei Kolosov. This made the score 2-1 Flyers. Copp and Compher collected assists.


The Flyers went up 3-1 at the 18:53 mark of the third period as Laughton scored an empty-netter. This was his third goal of the game. Konecny and Cates received assists.



Laughton capped off the game with his fourth goal of the night at the 19:47 mark of the third period. It was another empty-netter. Hathaway collected the lonely assist.



The Flyers went 0 for 1 on the Powerplay and 0 for 1 on the penalty kill in the game.


Kolosov kept the Flyers in the game all night long. He saved 25 of 26 shots, giving him a .962 save percentage.
